Time to Make the Donuts

I’m in my new work space/eldest daughter’s former bedroom. Her bed is still in here, but she’s not. The dog sleeps in it now. I made the bed today, because that has become very important to me these days, I guess so that the dog will have a nice place to sleep/snore.

I kept thinking about Fred the Baker. Remember that commercial in the early 80s, where he got up in the middle of the night to go and make the donuts? (You should watch it again. It’s here.) My dad used to do a great rendition of Fred the Baker. It was pretty lifelike, because my dad (who is also named Fred. If you’re me, he is the original, most important Fred. Hi Fred!) had a similar schedule for a long time.

Anyway, today I’m making the donuts the best way I know how: sitting in my daughter’s former bedroom, posting photos of donuts she made after midnight a couple days ago, typing things for you to read.

I took the Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory course in January. The lovely people at Dedalus Wine played a huge part in the course being offered in Vermont for the first time. It was a gas. In a weird way, it reminded me of Zen practice. I wrote about all this for the Multiplicity blog. It’s here. Check it out.
